All about Southborough Village Preschool

Southborough Village Preschool has been in existence since 1994 in the center of Southborough, MA. The school operates from 8:30 am ~ 2:45 pm providing a morning and afternoon preschool program, as well as a supervised playschool at lunchtime and in the afternoon.

Each of our three classrooms has a capacity of 13 children with a teacher and an assistant teacher for an adult-to-child ratio of 1:6.5.

We believe that the preschool years are a critical time for growth and learning in socialization, allowing your child to learn to make new friends, share, cooperate, enjoy circle time and develop relationships with other significant adults. We provide a solid basis for kindergarten by observing the whole child to insure a strong foundation in all areas of development - cognitive, social, physical, emotional, and creative.

Our facility includes a large, enclosed playground which offers a variety of outdoor activities to enhance the learning environment. In addition, we offer:
  • quiet time, as well as active time
  • structured activities, as well as unstructured time to explore
  • indoor and outdoor play
  • gross motor and fine motor activities
  • the opportunity to investigate science and math, as well as creative expression in arts and music
Our aim is to provide your child with exciting and innovative materials to learn more about his/her world. A typical day begins with a circle time for sharing and small group discussion. This is followed by an hour of discovery time, which includes art, science, and math activities, as well as home-making, dress-up, and manipulatives. Next, we have snack time, music and story. Sessions end with outdoor play in our playground, which is designed to stimulate gross motor activities.

About the Directors

Marty Henderson has a master's degree in education with a specialty in early childhood and special needs. She worked in preschool and full day child care centers before working as the Director of the Arts Center at Southborough.

Nancy Lodge has a master's degree in elementary education with a concentration in math. She taught in the public schools for 13 years, and before coming to Southborough Village Preschool, worked at a Framingham preschool.

Both women have lived in Southborough since the early 1980's and have grown children. They are active in the community.

My child not only feels cared for and secure at school, but she also comes home happy and bubbly talking about the other kids and her teachers. I love how the school has so many creative projects using many different materials, and each day's activities tend to revolve around a theme, even the snack. My daughter loved that she got to paint a big tooth using toothpaste on the day the dentist came to visit.
